Joining

The remarkable Lindsey magic is stronger than ever! The spectacular #1 bestselling author returns with a glorious tale of passion and duty set in medieval England. A betrothal has been announced that will join together Britain's two most powerful families , a union of wealth and influence to rival even the King's himself. But not only does the dangerously ambitious King John oppose this wedding, but Milisant and Wulfric : the intended bride and groom , are equally unhappy with the arrangement. Two passionate, headstrong people, they resent being thrown together for purely dynastic reasons. But fate's many twists and turns , and the unpredictable predilections of two unconquerable hearts will turn an unwanted marriage of convenience into a true and eternal joining of desire and love.

Setting: England, 1214
Sensuality Rating: 7
Wulfric de Thorpe was betrothed at age 13 to 6-year-old Milisant Crispin, daughter of his father's best friend--a "good" match for both families--but their first and only meeting was a disaster. They unwittingly injured each other when he was badly bitten by her falcon and Milisant received a broken ankle in the resulting chaos. Needless to say, the two have fiercely disliked each other ever since. Now 25, Wulfric reluctantly arrives at Dunburh Castle to claim his bride. To his dismay, he finds that although Milisant is now 19 and stunningly beautiful, she is still a sharp-tongued, untamed tomboy who refuses to obey her beloved father, dresses in male clothing, is an expert archer, and has a magic touch with animals of all sorts. Wulfric gloomily decides that his hope for a biddable lady wife is doomed. Just as pessimistic, Milisant fears that marriage to the handsome, powerful Wulfric will mean that "he would smother me, try to break me." Neither Milisant nor Wulfric want to wed, but the two can't bring themselves to refuse and disappoint their respective fathers.
Thrust into each other's company, a powerful attraction grows between them, despite their difficult past. But darker forces have political reasons for preventing the wedding, and they'll stop at nothing to succeed, including murdering Milisant. Will Wulfric be able to keep his new love alive long enough to marry her?
Peopled with complex and often colorful characters; set against the fascinating political background of King John's England; and enriched with a healthy dose of intrigue, passion, and conflict, Joining is another delightful novel from the prolific Lindsey. --Lois Faye Dyer

Day 7 - Stratton on the Fosse to Glastonbury

Day 7 - Stratton on the Fosse to Glastonbury

[Mobile Update]

And on the seventh day, it rained.
To be honest, we had it a lot better than elsewhere from what I've heard. As i finished off a fantastic breakfast and headed out of the village, there was a light mizzle in the air, so refreshing at points that i took off my hood on purpose. It got heavier though.
At Wells i took cover on a bench, thinking perhaps it would ease if i left it half an hour. It didn't. It got twice as hard. All credit to the general motoring public - as i made my way along the road joining Wells to Glastonbury they all did their best to avoid the biggest puddles or slow to cut their spray. It was only the odd bus that simply had nowhere to go. Midway along the stretch I dived into a little pub to see if it was possible to stop my shorts being so clingy with strategic use of the handdryer. I failed, but did enjoy my early pint of Cornish ale, even if the landlady told me in no uncertain terms to "stay on the tiles love" rather than get cosy in the carpeted section of the bar.
The rain had stopped when I returned to the road, and the final hop to Glastonbury was fine.
At this point I must raise my hat to the dedication of Martin, Peter and Toby, who decided to drive down from MK to meet for a beer "around 3". I arrived at 3.15 but it was another few hours before they made it. Thanks to the unrelenting weather further north it was 6 and a half hours on the road, just to share a few beers. I really appreciated that, and the gingerbread men they (bizarrely) brought me.
A week gone now, and tomorrow brings up the halfway point. And from what I hear, Cornwall is nice and dry at the moment...

Laminate (244/365)

Success! I beat the laminate flooring. I showed it who's the boss! It took me a day and a half to do a very small area but what can I say? I beat the laminate flooring, installed the zig zag bar and it's looking good. What's even better is that it hasn't exploded, cracked, spontaneously combusted or decided to break, which is quite nice.

Defy Not the Heart

Reina seethes with rage over her fate: taken captive by the knight Ranulf -- a golden giant of a man -- who has pledged to deliver her to the nuptial bed of the despised Lord Rothwell. She will never accept such bondage -- and Reina offers herself to her kidnapped instead, offering to make Ranulf a great lord...if he agrees to wed her.
But the brave knight desires much more than a marriage of convenience from this proud, headstrong lady who treats him with scorn yet makes his blood run hotter than liquid fire. She must come to him of her own free will -- or Ranulf will take her. For the passion that consumes them both cannot long be denied -- even though gravest peril surely awaits them on the heart's trail to a destines and turbulent love.
